To my understanding DM is another tool of marketing as some time back we had television, radio, news paper etc. DM is facing the similar dilemma what internet faced in late 20th century and CRM faced in 80’s. The hype created around DM is misleading to the general public. SMEs which comprise more than 90% of the business world are struggling for find the right agencies who can help them to stand out in the crowd. On top of all this, technology is changing so fast that even DM agencies are struggling to keep up with the pace. In the midst of all this, confusion about marketing may create bigger disaster for SMEs especially with smaller budgets and highly competitive market space.
Having said that the pros of DM are far far more than its cons, provided we don’t forget marketing.
